Please note: this section of the
website is under development. Due to the cancellation of the Farmer's Market in Provincetown for the Summer of 2006, we have delayed our plans. Please check back with us as we add information and items on sale
for the Summer of 2007.
GAYTUCKET
Fruits & Vegetables
Gaytucket / Fruits & Vegetables, is the name of the very large garden, or very
very tiny farm, situated on the back lot of 174 Bradford Street. After years of growing produce for their
own personal consumption, Mitchell and Thom decided to join the new Farmers
Market on Macmillan Pier, which had its first successful season during the summer of 2005.
We are adding more vegetable beds in our growing area, and hope to expand our growing season
from four short months to hopefully producing fresh produce year round. We grow various
tomatoes, pumpkins and other squashes, pole beans, string beans and snap peas, carrots,
onions, cucumbers and gourds, to name a few of our favorites.
We also have re-organized and expanded our cutting garden, to ensure that our garden also
provides a stunning visual display outside, while allowing us to pick plenty of fresh
bouquets to fill the house with scent and color for our guests. We are committed to our
environments health, and therefore grow with no pesticides or artificial boosters. Our
entire garden is watered from our own well so we do not have to tax the already
overstrained aquifer that serves the towns of Provincetown and North Truro.
It has been a joy over the years to watch our formerly barren backyard turn into the oasis
it is today, teeming with color and life.
ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY
While our produce has not been officially certified organic by the FDA, we
consider it organic due to the fact that we never use chemicals during any stage of the
growing process and fight harmful insects with hands on vigilance rather than harmful
insecticides. Sometimes our yield is not what we had dreamed, and yes, on rare occasions
we have lost some crops or blooms, but mostly we are ecstatic with our yield, and feel
that any loss to our reap is worth it for the pleasures afforded us by the avian and
insect life of which we feel a special stewardship towards.
FRESH CUT FLOWERS
Abundant flowers begin with the crocus in March and continue until
the dahlias are taken by the frost in November. Tulips, fritillaries, daffodils, lilac,
rhododendrons, sunflowers, dahlias, roses, cannas, heliotropes, iris, corn flower,
columbine, and many more varieties too numerous to mention here fill every available spot
of 174 Bradford
Street. Fresh
cut flowers from our garden are brought inside to welcome our weekly tenants and in 2007, select flowers will be sold at the farmers marke.

AVIAN AFFORDABLE HOUSING
Located throughout the property are numerous bird-houses
attracting many species of birds (hummingbird, Baltimore orioles, sparrows, robins, doves,
blue birds, finches and more). These little homes will be available for sale.
VERMONT MAPLE SYRUP
Vermont pure maple syrup is available from Mitchells brother Daniel who has
a maple sugar farm and sugar shack in northern Vermont. This is an exclusive product of
Gaytucket Garden.
SUSTAINABLE LIVING
Beginning in 2007 we will start our efforts to introduce renewable energy sources for 174 Bradford Street. We are investigating the basics such as lightbulbs, rain barrells, hybred vehicles and simple solar lighting solutions. Any new renovations will include solar and wind power, solar hot water heater and efficient central air. We plan on sharing our experiences as we progress with this undertaking and we hope in some small way that our property will help inform those interested in saving this planet.
